Accentuate the Positive
WOW! I don’t know about where you live, but the weather in Central Illinois took a dramatic turn. We had been hot and humid for days on end but today (September 2), I dare say, feels almost cold. Well, at least in the shade it does. Well, at least in the shade in the evening it does. Well, at least in the shade, in the evening, in a sleeveless top it does. Ok, never mind. It was a beautiful day. Let’s leave it at that!
My oldest sister retired last Friday. This being Labor Day means tomorrow is the first workday she will wake up without a job to go to, in 50+ years. That’s another WOW!
I bought a FitTrack scale that measures all kinds of things in my body, including my metabolic age. My actual age is 61 but my metabolic age is 57…until yesterday, when it said I was 56 (metabolically). I’m going to take that as a WOW WEE!
The neighbor kids across the street played outside literally all day today. Their sweet voices and laughing and all the running and shouting would be a balm for the toughest of souls.
That’s a solid WHOOP!
Last week another neighbor gave us the sweetest tomatoes from her garden…best of the season. I saw her on my walk this morning and told her they were all gone in record time.
She texted me later- she put some on her front porch for me to pick up. WooooHoooo!
The guy who mows our neighbor’s lawn ran his 360-riding mower into our 2-year-old black, steel fence today. And it’s not the first time, but this was a big one. Our smallest grand dog and our dear granddaughter can get out of our yard through this gaping area. I was direct and persistent, though not over the top. During our discourse he said, “It’s just a fence.” I’m caught on our Xfinity outdoor camera saying, as I entered our house, “Wrong answer.” And he is wrong.
No WOW, Whoop or Wooohooo here.
But you know what?
It’s a gorgeous day/evening.
My big sister gets to wake up tomorrow and not go to work for the first time in decades.
I’m 56 years old in my 61-year-old body (metabolically speaking)
And I’ve got the cutest, life-giving neighbors in one of the friendliest neighborhoods in town.
So, Mower Dude, you won’t get me down.
But you will fix my fence.
Sometimes we need to let the strong emotions go and lean into all the good stuff that’s going on. Or even just one good thing…that’s all it takes.
What emotions are you struggling with today?
What’s overwhelming you?
Do you have someone to talk to? No?
Email me….you and I can set up a time to talk. No charge.
